So, weeks four and five are long gone. Last week was WEEK ELEVEN!!
Seems I’ve (just slightly) let my blog slip. Whoops….
Since the Fencelator, a lot has happened – week 6 was MySql and databases followed by a DB project in week 7.
Week 8 was basic Javascript and Jquery. Week 9 was (EVENTFUL!!) a project week for the JS module. We had to build a Christmas Game for the Academy website – as a group. It involved (gulp…) Githubbing (do I push, or pull? Not sure. What branch is this?). A proper sprint. A proper team. We made it, just about. The game will be live (eventually) and I will post a link when it is.
I was pretty happy with myself when I made a digital clock (luckily I decided to make it digital – to figure out some stuff on the canvas. After I had made it, I found LOTS of tutorials on making analogue clocks. I enjoyed figuring this out for myself). It is a ridiculously long script for such a simple thing, but it draws each digit in single lines each second. It took AGES:

As well as the clock, I made Mr Walky. He doesn’t do much, apart from walk about a bit (and sometimes disappear), but I just wanted to see if I could do something like this – I think it was two, or three days into the JS module. He is VERY ropey, but works and I was glad I could actually make him work.

Week ten was Advanced Web Dev essentials. This involved SASS, LESS, Bootstrap, Handlebars, SVG and lots of work on responsive sites. There was no project week for this module, but a fairly frustrating challenge. The less said, the better….
Week eleven (last week), was Advanced PHP. We did A LOT in one week. Covered a lot of OOP, SOLID and DRY as well as PHP Mailer.
Next week is project week for Advanced PHP – to build a booking system for multiple car parks. Should be interesting.
As well as all of this, I have just started contributing to an open source project (https://github.com/rmjjjt/Consolidare), which should be some good practice.
AND to top it all off, I have booked my ZCE Exam. 3.30pm on 9th December. That is now less than (gulp) FOUR WEEKS AWAY.
The real job hunt has begun as well as the task of updating my portfolio site – it was built in week two, so is very basic. Trying to add a bit of everything to it is (complete overkill and), taking it’s time – the PHP is there, some JS/JQuery is there, but it is as responsive as a sausage and some SASS wouldn’t go amiss. Is it any wonder my darling IONMAYDEN has been neglected??
Oh – one more final thing – I went to my first PHP South West meetup last week. It was really interesting and worthwhile, even though the day was LONG!!! The next meet up is December for a social and Christmas quiz, but the talks resume in January.
